ya, i have heard of such virus , which converts the file extension of movies into images (*.avi to *.jpg) may b thats the case.
In case all your exe files are infected,.. reinstall xp, install antivirus from a good source(make sure that exe is not infected), and repair/disinfect all your exe’s before you use any of them.

Open “My Computer”
Goto Tools> FolderOptions> View> AdvancedSettings> Uncheck “Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color”

Its just compressed form.. go right click on document, properties, advanced, and uncheck the compress file to save disk space and apply.. and blue file name is vanished!!!!

With reference to your online support of removal of virus I pen-drive I have used this option on October 10, 2009 and after that some of my folders and files (.doc, .PDF, and video files etc.) disappears, if you have any support for restoration kindly expedite the instruction.
